Your Questions About Free Stuff For Teachers

Richard asks…

Where can I find free stuff for teachers. I don’t need lesson plans, but things like used computers and desks?

I am in Fort Worth, TX. I haven’t had success on craigslist. I am looking for basic stuff for classroom.

admin answers:

Look at government resources like Computers for Learning, which works with federal agencies to transfer their excess technology to schools and educational nonprofit organizations. Have your school’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) number or the organization’s 501c Tax ID number handy for registration on their website.

Try registering with a private organization that transfers computers like the Share the Technology nonprofit. Just like Computers for Learning, Share the Technology focuses on reusing equipment rather than recycling it. They also accept donations of old equipment to pass on to needy schools.

Register with iLoveSchools which matches teachers with donors for free equipment. They allow teachers to post a wish list online and prospective donors view the lists. The organization also matches randomly donated things, such as computers, to those teachers who express a desire for donation

David asks…

i need to know a free place to get stuff for a teacher classroom?

im trying to pimp out my classroom but money is tight. Does anyone know of a place where I can get free stuff for teachers?

admin answers:

You should check to see if your school district participates in Adopt a Class or DonorsChoose.org. Both programs depend on others donations to help a teacher meet the needs of his/her classroom. Adopt a Class, I believe, will give you the money to spend on supplies and project ideas for your class. DonorsChoose.org will buy the items that you requested if your project gets funded.
I have tried both programs and I have had 3 projects funded by DonorsChoose.org. I was able to get some great Physical Education equipment, 2 LeapPads, headphones for 5 computers, and 5 stopwatches. I received all these items this past school year and my students really enjoyed using them.

James asks…

what are good sites that offer free books or kid school stuff with no shipping charge ..no i do not want downl?

no i do not want downloadable items i want them mailed to me my mom use to recieve alot of free stuff like for teachers through mail but i dont member the sites

admin answers:

Try http://www.freefreebies.org its what I use they’re new but cool and update daily

Mandy asks…

How I can get free stuff for my school, like books, supplies, chairs, anything?

I am preparing a room with donations of computers, books and other stuff a place where teachers and students can use. I am preparing a Photography Club. If any one know please let me known. Thank you.

admin answers:

Hit up the people you know that you pay money to every year. For instance, your dentist, your doctor, your lawyer or financial advisor. These people like your business and know that you pay them for their services. If you hit them up for donations they’re more likely to accomodate seeing as they’d like to help, it’s a write off and they want to keep your business. Same holds true with banks. If you have an account in good standing at your local bank solicit their marketing department for supplies. Donations of this type will sometimes fall under what’s called the Community Reinvestment Act and is a requirement of banks to participate in. Part of giving back to the communities that they do business within. You’ll need to furnish all these people with copies of your Federal tax ID so they can write off these donations. Good luck!

Daniel asks…

Where can a teacher get free stuff for the classroom?

admin answers:

Try iloveschools.com. I have also found that if I am looking for something specific I just call up people until someone is willing to donate. (ie- carpet squares from the carpet store)

William asks…

Teachers, I was wondering what companies can I get free products from?

I know I can do the Pizza Hut Book-It program and get free stuff from Colgate, but are there any others? I am trying to get some ideas for the school year. I teach 1st grade. Any suggestions?

admin answers:

There is a web site where you can write a wish list

adoptaclass.com

Good luck!

Helen asks…

William asks…

Any ideas for Hobbies for my grandmother to do since my grandfather passed away?

My grandfather had passed away less than a week ago & my grandmother is currently living at the same house but my uncle is taking care of her. She is able to do almost everything, because she is only 63. Does anyone have any ideas for hobbies or crafts for her to do? I am planning on buying her a few hobbies to do. I have came up with a journal, and a puzzle. But I can’t think of anything else. IDEAS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks!

admin answers:

Hobby is solely personal preferences. It might be a good idea to take her for a trip at a super crafts store. She will find so many types of hobbies to choose from. However, when my mother retired, she chose to join a chorus as her hobby. Don’t waste time & money guessing. Ask her or help her. Let she guide you.

Lizzie asks…

What hobbies should me and my boyfriend get in to?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for some fun hobbies to take up for over Easter and over Summer.
Neither of us drive but I am planning to do my driving lesson soon (the town we live in doesn’t have alot of fun things to do lol). I’m 17 and he’s 21. Open to all suggestions really, we want to try something new and exciting, something we could enjoy or progress at.

admin answers:

Photography – get a camera and you can either go on photography hunting trips (where you go around town taking photos together) or you could do photo shoots of each other

Painting – pretty simple

Dancing – learn to dance together as a couple, like salsa or tango or something

Betty asks…

What hobbies would reflect outgoing personality or teamwork?

Are there any hobbies other than sport which would reflect an outgoing personality or showing that you like working as a team other than sports ?? Thanks .

admin answers:

Paintball is a great sport/hobby. Teamwork is a must in it and is a fun to play.

Ruth asks…

What hobbies can your do solely on your computer?

I only need to sleep three hours a day and am often on the computer at night. Are there any hobbies that I could do that involves me making good use of this extra time?

admin answers:

There are scrapbooking kits where you can design the pages on your laptop, find a brain computer game so that you are learning – many are fun. Learn Adobe Photoshop.

Maria asks…

What are good stress relieving hobbies to take up?

I have been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder (I visit my therapist weekly and my psychiatrist monthly), and I want to try and take up a hobby to help relieve my anxiety symtoms. I have started to work out and its helpful and I will also be getting a summer job soon. I just wanted to know if there are any good suggestions for stress relieving hobbies? I’m also 16 years old, if that helps.

admin answers:

I don’t know what you like to do, but anything physical, particularly outdoors, has been shown to help relieve stress and anxiety. Some ideas are intramural sports such as gymnastics, karate, tennis, swimming, track and field, basketball, baseball. If you aren’t into competitive sports you still may like to do things like rock climbing, bike riding, or hiking.

You could volunteer. At a nature center or animal shelter – being around animals is a great stress reducer. Any place you can help others really gets you outside of yourself.

On the quieter side, some people find it relaxing to write, paint, or draw. I’ve always found growing plants to be most relaxing. I had a little vegetable garden when I was 4 years old!

Rave’s suggestion of taking up the drums, or playing any musical instrument is an excellent one. While his other suggestion can certainly relieve stress (!), I wouldn’t exactly call that a “hobby” .

I hope this list got your ideas flowing and that something some one here posts resonates with you.

im 16, and i would like to have a list of hobbies to maybe make money, but doesn’t have to be a way to make money…anything that will help me be less bored. anything you can tell me would be great. Thanks in advance

Hmm, here’s some for you to enjoy.

Go to a club

Bahhahahahaha ;D

George asks…

Should you list your hobbies on a resume?

I’ve heard varying opinions on this.

Say my hobbies are: sailing, art, photography, and martial arts.

admin answers:

Not unless it is REALLY pertinent to the job you are applying for. For instance, you are applying to be a security guard, your martial arts skills are pertinent, the fact that you sail is not.

Thomas asks…

List of hobbies for something to do this summer?

Can anyone give me a list of ‘different’ hobbies I could try out to occupy myself when I’m not out with friends this summer? Not really looking for a new sport such as golf, tennis, football ect ect since I’ve basically tried everything.

Thinking about something I could do with my hands.

I’m open to all suggestions.

JD

admin answers:

You could try metal working or clay. Woodcrafting.
If you’re not limited by preconcieved and ridiculous notions of which genders can do what crafts then you could try things like knitting or crochet or sewing. You could also try things like screen printing, lineleum block printing, model car building, mosiacs, glass work, rc cars, photography, bookmaking, or even regular old painting/drawing.

Ken asks…

Where can I find a list of clubs (hobbies) on LI?

I am missing something in my life and I have decided I need to be part of something bigger. Maybe religion but more looking for a club or hobby…I am just at a loss as to what there even is here on LI. Can anyone suggest a place where I can find a list of what is available? Maybe something will catch my eye and change my life. Looking for that elusive miracle! Thank you in advance.

William asks…

Japanese speakers: How would I list several of my hobbies in Japanese?

I’m writing a blog in Japanese, even though I’m not very good at it. =D The reason I started was to improve my writing.
I’m writing about my hobbies and interest. I started making a list:
本を読んだり 音楽を聴い本を読んだり 音楽を聴いたり
Using this pattern (たり forms) how would I write the following?
watch movies 映画を見たり?
go on walks 散歩。。。
take pictures
go to the beach
write short stories

Thank you!

admin answers:

本を読んだり 音楽を聴い本を読んだり 音楽を聴いたり
I take it something screwy went with your typing? 本を読んだり、音楽を聴いたり is all you need.

散歩をしたり
写真を撮ったり
海へ行ったり
短編小説(たんぺんしょうせつ)を書いたり

Remember to end your list with する。
The たり form is simple. Just put the verbs in plain past tense and then add り.
食べる = 食べた = 食べたり

Helen asks…

Is it good to list my hobbies?

On my acting resume, I heard that if you have no experience that you can list your hobbies such as “I like going to the movies, drawing, hanging out with friends, etc”. Is that true or should I just leave my hobbies out.

Thanks

admin answers:

You shouldn’t necessarily list your hobbies, just your special talents.
If you’re a gymnast or can play an instrument or something individual like that, then say so, but casting directors don’t care if you enjoy long walks on the beach or going to the movies.

Your Questions About Hobbies Boulder

Mary asks…

Best place to live around Boulder for a young rock-climbing couple with limited budget?

We would like to move from Pittsburgh to Boulder in the fall. Our hobbies are backpacking/hiking, climbing, outdoor activities, chilling at dive bars and photograghy. We don’t have scads of money (just starting out), but still want to live in a cute/safe place. Prefer to have some nature and privacy, but not be too far away from stores and modern conveniences. Any reccommendations? Any places to steer clear of?

admin answers:

Boulder is quite expensive, but there are some deals to be found in the summertime, after the students leave. You may also want to consider a town outside of Boulder, like Longmont or Superior. They’re close by and quite a bit cheaper.

Steven asks…

Boulder? denver? for an alternative type artist / industrial musician / craft maker / hockey player?

I’m moving from Los Angeles within the next year or so and am looking at my options. I moved here from the Detroit area for an internship in a career i decided not to persue and am now looking for somewhere more permanent. I want a big city but with suburbs and nature. My fiance is working on a degree in Environmental Science so this is why Boulder is on our list.

I’m a special effects aritst (by hobby), painter, crafter etc and I play roller hockey. He does industrial music and plays hockey. We’re looking for a place that has a good art and music scene (rock, industrial, alternative etc). we don’t want to move to the northwest though we really like portland. So I’m kind of looking for something similar. Would Boulder be a good fit?

admin answers:

Boulder is a fine city, but Denver seems more like what you are looking for. It’s great here.

Boulder: Good city for an alternative type artist / industrial music / crafts etc?

admin answers:

Fort Collins, is a better choice.. Great town and there is a university there, so it’s a collage town, with small town charm. Lots of diversity of peoples.
It isn’t a “big city”, but it has all the amenities your looking for. And talk about views ! It’s beautiful !
It was voted the number 2 best city to live in the US.
One of the first things you notice about this Rocky Mountain city is that practically every new road has a bike lane. Even the wheelless can get in on the action now that Fort Collins has a bike library: Residents and visitors can check out a bicycle for up to seven days, free.

The city’s Old Town historic district contains four microbreweries and more than two dozen restaurants. Bioscience and tech companies, including Agilent Technologies, Hewlett-Packard and Kodak, keep employment opportunities high. Colorado State University occupies a scenic spot in the middle of town. And the city just received a grant from the Department of Energy to start a solar-energy project downtown.

Lots to do, year round.
Plus is close, (about 1 hour north) to Denver.

Lived there myself at one time..
I really fell in love with the people and the friendly town. It is a great place to raise kids.

Lizzie asks…

What college should I apply to?

I’m faced with a small problem as to deciding which colleges I would like to apply to due to a little disparity in my stats.

I have a G.P.A of 2.9 Not very good by most standards. (most kids in my class fall at around a 3.6-3.7)

However on the second time I took that SAT reasoning I scored 2100

critical reading: 720
math: 700
writing: 680

SAT II scores:
U.S. Hist: 720
Math II: 690

While my tests scores are good everything else is kind of bland. I have a minimal amount of community service and no heavy extracurricular like sports or managing a club. I do, however, have 2 advanced extracurricular art classes as well as a college writing course at Columbia University though it is worth no college credits. I’m part of a few clubs but most of my extracurricular list is composed of hobbies such as playing the guitar, writing, drawing, and reading. I can claim a fairly high level of ability in all of them.

I’m just having a hard time figuring out what my range is. I mean I have the test scores to get into most schools like U Penn and Chicago but my 2.9 G.P.A is more typical at schools like U of Arizona or U Colorado at boulder.

It seems likely that by the end of the semester I can raise it to like a 3.0 or 3.1 if I’m lucky. Also I have been diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder (a type of learning disability) that may give colleges a reason for my grades. (Though I have heard many colleges will avoid accepting students with any learning disabilities though they are not legally allowed to discriminate)

I have yet to decide on a major nor do I really have any idea as to what I could possibly major in.

Really any advice would help because the school college counselor has been 0 help.

admin answers:

Having a high SAT is great, but it’s really your GPA, in cases like yours, that schools will pay most attention to. That’s because what your GPA/SAT combo seems to show is that while you are obviously bright, you have trouble actually doing the classwork. So your GPA will be weighed very heavily, and it’s unlikely, unless it’s an unusual circumstance, that you’d get into a place like UPenn.

That said, if there’s a pattern to your grades – let’s say all your English grades have been high, but your math and science grades have dragged you down – and you apply as an English major, that’s in your favor. Likewise, if your grades are lowish because your freshman year was horrible, but you’ve done up since then, that’s actually very much in your favor.

When you apply to schools, you want to apply to reach, fit, and safety, plus 1-2 super safety. For you, I want you to pick 1-2 reach schools where your SATs are at the *high end* of their averages, but your GPA will obviously be rather low for them. Pick fit schools where your SATs are *higher* than their averages, and your GPA is a bit low for them. Then pick safety schools where your SATs are going to be very high for them, but your GPA is a good fit. And pick 1-2 super safety schools where, based on your GPA alone, you know you’ll be very likely to get in.

You should get into those safety schools. You may well get into a couple of the fit schools. You probably won’t get into the reach schools. But you might.

Your extra curriculars are fine, btw. Things like guitar and writing and drawing count. The art classes and the writing class counts. Don’t get overly anxious about that. You aren’t joiny-joiny. So be it.

In terms of what to major in, you don’t necessarily have to decide that now. You can go in undecided, if you want to. But you want to look most closely at majors that play to your strengths and interests. Have a look at the list of majors at two schools: U Arizona, and U Penn. See what they offer, and what interests you. Maybe that’ll spark some ideas.

Mark asks…

How to finally get over him? Please help?

Im falling apart at the seams since my breakup. My problem is that its been 10 months since I last saw him… I should be over him now but I’m not. After he broke up with me, I didn’t really make that much of an attempt to reconnect with him. after all, he made the decision to end things, he must have had a really good reason why I wasnt valuable enough to keep around. I am still shell-shocked & confused. i can’t handle life anymore. if i see someone that reminds me of him i have slight panick attacks, anxiety. i cant breath or think, i just want to run away. he was never abusive in any way, it just hurt & confused me so much when he broke up with me. I felt used, much like when a man rapes & murders a woman and dumps her body in a ravine or garbage can. i feel utterly used and drained. im not interested in getting to know other men, im very sad and bitter, angry about what happened.on the one hand i fantasize about being with him again someday, but in reality i am terified of having any contact with him, because he has the power to hurt me & i know I couldnt handle being hurt more, im scared of what will be next for me if that happens, maybe an insane asylum…? I’m so hurt… I liken the feeling to standing with my back up againts a huge boulder… and a huge tracktor trailer truck comes barreling into me, smashing me into the wall. actually i think that would be alot less painful than what i am feeling… its been almost a year since we broke up and i think about him every day… every single day and nearly every single minute. im comforted remembering the good times, then i remember the times he hurt me (not deliberatly, he wasnt abusive at all… actually too good to be true. but I hurt when he did thinks like only sent a text to me on valentines day that said ‘happy v-day’ and nothing else, etc) and cry, and all the energy leaves my body. i cant handle life anymore. i cant really function anymore. im just empty now… i wish that i never met him. I HAVE a life… a job, hobbies, etc. So I’m not sure what I can do to finally heal…. any advice?

admin answers:

Here’s [WHAT TO DO]:>> Block him PHYSICALLY from every goddamn book there is about the face to the leg! Cut his phone. DO NEVER EVER respond to his emails, SMS. NO MATTER WHAT!

SHOUT “NEXXXT!”; “NEXT”, “NEXT!”..”NEXT!”, many times, till someone pleases you & is here to STAY! YOU CALL the SHOTS here! Duh!

GET SOME SELF-RESPECT DUDETTE! I’LL GIVE YOU SOME RIGHT AWAY- You’re the WOMAN! You’re the coolest thing that Jacka.ss has seen & his BLINDNESS, DUMB-HEAD or EVOLUTION AIN’T your concern/problem! KICK HIM (not physically). KICK HIM WHERE HE CAN’T EVEN SHOW. LOAD it with {{STYLE}} dude. LAUGH at HIM!

[GETTIN a GRIP on the "MISMATCH"]:>> “WHAT breakup?!”
: At a mall you see a REALLY artistic, exotic, uber-cool T-Shirt(guy). You think THIS IS ‘THE ONE’! You almost buy (marry) it to live happily eva after, but Oops! Turns out it’s 3(THREE) whole sizes smaller than yours. WHADYA DO?! Put it back to where you picked it from & shout “NEXT!”. That’s what!

: So You’re tryin keys(guys) from a bunch to open this door. You pick a key, HOPE it’ll “work”, but it DOESN’T! OMG! WHADYADO NOW?! Drop It And Pick The NEXT! That’s what! You waste NO time to sit & brood over “Why didn’t the key OPEN it for me?” YOU’RE the DOOR! Not some KEY! You hold back NUMEROUS GIFTS inside you. This person is ONE of the keys. If this key can’t open it, 2BAD, it’ll NEVER see your GIFTS! LAUGH NOW! The KEY “MOVES ON”! The door STAYS PUT! YOU CALL THE SHOTS!
Ts! Keys! MOVE ON! Somebody shout “NEXT!”

[CONSIDER THESE QUESTIONS]:>> Why would you treat someone on priority when you’re NOT their priority?
Why would you live with someone who DOESN’T like your company? Why in the HE.CK would you enjoy theirs?
If he doesn’t enjoy you, WHY WOULD YOU enjoy him NOT enjoying you, or ENJOY HIM AT ALL?!
If he’s OK with it, why EVER would you NOT be OK?! If he DOESN’T want it, why EVER would YOU?
If HE DOESN’T mind, WHY WOULD YOU?! Why would you need someone that DOESN’T need you? WHA:O? WhY.EVER?!
If HE DOESN’T NEED you & WANT you as much, why EVER would you? Why would you care if HE CAN’T/WON’T care?
Why would you be with someone who’s willing to LET YOU DOWN, LET YOU FAIL?! :O WHY IN THE ACTUAL HE.CK WOULD YOU DO THAT?!
It’s like wanting to live desperately with someone who you know will murder you! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? KICK HIM! He more than deserves it.
BASICALLY, why would you be with someone that FAILS YOU & is WILLING to LET YOU DOWN?

Your house(relationship) is broken so that it can be built anew with newer better things(new guy perhaps). So that it can be made stronger, better than ever before! That’s how “renovation” works!

[BEATING 'HER+HIM']:>> Be a LIONESS. Who the hell needs him?! Seeing him with ‘her’?(on fb?) KNOW that IT’S NOT YOU! How could he EVER have YOUR(you+him) kinda fun with some SUBSTITUTE of YOURS? YOU+HIM is what you relate to and think is rosy, NOT HER+HIM!

HER is a REPLACEMENT. And JUST WHO IN THE ACTUAL HE.CK COULD REPLACE YOU?! LOL! HER+HIM is a GIMMICK, a CATCH, an IMITATION! It looks happier, brighter? It’s FAKE! IT’S NOT EVER THE SAME AS YOU+HIM!

HOW COULD HE EVER HAVE YOUR KINDA FUN WITHOUT YOU?! LOL! A.JOLIE’S with him? So what?! It’s still NOT YOU! It can NEVER be YOU!
SNAP outa it! NOW! People who care, NEVER give up on you! STAY PUT. KICK HIM MORE!

[GETTIN A GRIP OVER HIS THOUGHTS]:>> His thoughts are ECHOES. You hear(think) them even after the SPEAKER’S gone. They HAPPEN to you – UNLIKE RADIO CHANNELS! They’re like garbage stink, unpleasant & pungent, staying even after the garbage truck’s gone. But that’s just the quality of garbage! IT’S NOT YOU! You walk past a street with garbage & smell stink! You didn’t plan on it! So too, you didn’t plan to have his thoughts! It’s not your fault if you smell garbage Keep walking, toward fragrance. [SING] MUCH, Get BUSY with things. His thoughts’ve GOTTA FADE.

You’re JUST fine without him. You still have skin and are breathing. The “breakup” didn’t even touch you! You din’t/don’t EVER need him at all! Trust me. Your self confidence, courage to live fully without him, to show him this, & that you don’t care a damn about him, IS success in this dirty mind game!

It was a long relationship? So what?! It’s the old houses that’re broken to bits to create newer mansions of light, laughter & clarity.

Breathe deep. DUMP HIM, at every level. Let him down. Show him, his place. You can do this. After kicking him royally, you have to help MANY who are in the same state(or worse) as you now, & need help. It’s ALL FOR THEM. This whole event is JUST so that you come out of it 100% SUCCESSFUL, tell & share your learnings, experiences & help these people. This is (your secret mission), the final PURPOSE behind the whole situation that’s in front of you now.

“Some blessings shatter all glasses and windows when they arrive”
Power to you! | God be wih you!

Indoor Climbing Guangdong (Zhuhai)?

Hey, looking to get into indoor rock climbing while abroad. But there seems to be a lack of information about it outside of a few more major metropolitan areas. Now being close to Hong Kong there is always the option of making day trips but that would get pricy as I’d like to make this a real hobby. So does anyone know of any climbing walls or places to boulder in the Zhuhai area that would be more economical?

admin answers:

Ummmm well on www.bouldr.net there is a place that’s KINDA near Hong Kong… The kinda may be in terms of hundreds of miles though, not sure. Check out the website though, see if it is anywhere near you..

Joseph asks…

Mandy asks…

What hobbies can your do solely on your computer?

I only need to sleep three hours a day and am often on the computer at night. Are there any hobbies that I could do that involves me making good use of this extra time?

admin answers:

There are scrapbooking kits where you can design the pages on your laptop, find a brain computer game so that you are learning – many are fun. Learn Adobe Photoshop.

Steven asks…

Your Questions About Hobbies That Make Money

James asks…

Hobbies that make money?

Does anyone know of hobbies that make good money? Any ideas would be helpful. I’m looking for something fun to do and I would like to have a little income at the same time! Thanks

admin answers:

It works the other way around. No matter what the hobby is, it takes a long time to get good enough at it to sell. So, what hobby do you have that you do so well, your friends are begging you to make it for them? It also has to be something that people think they could not make for themselves.
.

Joseph asks…

Hobbies That Make Money?

I am a 14 year old boy, and one of my specialties is making things. I would like to know what sort of hobby I can take up that I can make money out of. It doesnt matter how much I will make from it, but as long as it suites my age and people will be interested in buying it.

admin answers:

Betty asks…

How can amateur inventors make money from creating the world’s first electric pickup with ‘free batteries’?

Is there any way for two hobby inventors make money from their knowledge in creating the world’s only licensed electric vehicle (a pickup truck with an electric motor) that runs exclusively on reconditioned batteries? Will this kind of ‘cost-free-energy’ be of use in countries where people are too poor to afford rechargeable lithium batteries? In other words, what’s next?

admin answers:

—————-
This is a great project, but it is probably not the ‘world’s only licensed electric vehicle running on reconditioned batteries.’ See this page for pictures of about a thousand electric vehicle owners and their cars/trucks:
*

http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/

*
Using scrap batteries is not a new idea. It’s a common tactic among EV owners to save money by restoring and using cast-off batteries from golf carts and other sources. If you’ve got a steady, easy source of such batteries, though, it is an intriguing idea.
*
It’s not surprising that a story like this would be treated as such a novelty. Electric vehicles get very little press, even though thousands of them are on the road.
*
Did you know that a car or truck converted to electricity can be purchased for as little as $5000 – and driven around for only a penny per mile? It’s true, take a look at the links on this page:
*

http://www.squidoo.com/cheap-electric-car/

*
For the state-of-the-art in electric vehicles: Take a look at this electric pickup truck, using batteries based on research from MIT:
*

http://phoenixmotorcars.com/models/fleet.html

*
The Phoenix can travel up to 250 miles per charge, carries 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph, charges in only 10 minutes, and has batteries that will last well over 200,000 miles (for the life of the car.) Yes, it’s a real car, orders have been taken and they begin building cars this month. Cost is about $45,000, but that price will fall if enough sales can be made.

Ruth asks…

hobbies or crafts that help make money?does anyone have ideas on how to be more organized?

I would like any tips that could help make life easyer.I would like good parenting tips for a 4 year old, and a 9 year old. what do i tell my son if he ask me what can he do if someone is mean to him at school, ) i have told him to walk away and ignor it but he said that that person still picks on him.i know i have lots of questions but i guess what im really asking for are tips and advice….thank you have a good day

admin answers:

My dad always told me to walk away too. He always told me to not be the one who started trouble. But he also told me not to “run away” either. His exact words were, if you cannot reason with them or walk away from them, then pick up a stick and knock them in the head. In other words, do what it is going to take to win quickly and be done with it.

Of course I remember mom and dad being a bit miffed when I followed this advice literally and used a fallen pecan branch on the head of a kid who was picking on me. (That kid never messed with me again though.)

A few years later, after we had moved to another town, there were three guys at school who bullied me for a while. I finally had enough and got one of them alone one day. Frankly, I went berserk on him. One of the best days of my entire life. The next day at school I managed to get one of the others alone behind the gym and had a repeat performance. The third guy avoided me like the plague. The knots that had been in my stomach since I arrived in that miserable little town were gone and I was able to once again concentrate on school and play and being a normal kid.

It is worthwhile to remember that in every school shooting situation I can remember hearing about it was always a kid who was picked on for a long period who wound up being the shooter.

There is really only one way to deal with a bully and that is to kick their a$$ properly and with prejudice. They are usually not expecting it since probably no one else has ever stood up to them and they really are not practiced at handling such a situation. Once usually cures it.

If you fight a bully and lose the fight you have still won. Assuming you inflict as much pain on him as possible in the process. You still win because he will think twice about the value of coming after you again. If he knows it is going to cost him every time he will turn his attention elsewhere.

We do live in a different time than when I was a kid, no one brought knives or guns to school back then. But the principle is the same. When you walk away from some jerks, they just take it as a sign of weakness and close in for the kill, so to speak.

Ultimately, only you can rear your child. The best you can do is open your eyes wide and make the best judgment call you can. I wish you well.

Maria asks…

What ideas does everyone have on how I can make some side money? ie making jewlery…?

I need to make some extra money. My boss makes soap and gives massages. I was thinking I could do something like that. I have a few ideas, but anyone got some more that may trigger an idea. Please don’t tell me that I should take my hobby or anything like that. I’m not stupid and can’t figure that out on my own, I just don’t have any hobbies I can make money at. Just brainstorming ideas here. Thanks for the help!

admin answers:

Well you can do grass mowing baby sitting dog walking dog sitting A lot of ways out there if you will just look.

John asks…

What is a great hobby that you can make money from?

What is a interesting hobby you can make money from? Is there any special equipment you need? Thank you

admin answers:

Travel – You can use your intimate knowledge of an area to give lectures, tours, even teach the native language!

Whoops, I forgot to add the visual arts component to my answer – you can create architectural drawings for sale, create PowerPoint for the presentations, illustrate periodicals and books, create interesting post cards and other pleasant artwork for tourists to bring home as a memento of their trip.

What is the culture like in Colorado?

I am 25 & looking to relocate from PA to another state. Colorado is one that I am considering. I am looking to learn more about Colorado from people that have lived there. I’m interested in what the climate is like year round; what the people are like; how’s the cost of living there; what are popular hobbies/activities; …

admin answers:

Depending on what part of co your considering. But in Denver, the climate is mostly warm in the summer and REALLY snowy and icey in the winter. It mostly has prcipitatiopn like snow and rain and ice because its location relating to the Gulf od Mexico and the Rocky Mountains. But i personally enjoy it. , its pretty average. And wit the size of the city theres alot of competition so you cant really put up prices as much.Hobbies;snowboarding, shopping is a MAJOR 4 me, malls, concerts, MANY entertaining indoor places as well as outdoor,(mountain activities), hot springs, swimming, ect. There is plenty of hot springs because of the mts. Wat of love about denver is that watever you need you can find it here. And the sight of all the buildings and skycrapers and lights is just amazing! PPl; in general its dangerous. But again, all big cities are dangerous. But as far as the clothing and ppl, there are very different and unique ppl because of the size. So you can find a miscellaneous kinds of ppl. But the clothing style is very intresting. .everyone seems to have a certain style. But again this is in Denver. Maybe its different in sumwhere else in CO. But ive been in various parts of co and everywhere is rich with differnt cultures and entertainment! I Highly recommend it!

What was that Disney Channel short series where kids showed their hobbies?

I’m looking for this one where this girl worked with animals, and she talked kind of funny. These shorts always aired during commercials, and this one was probably from over 4 years ago. Does anyone remember?? And is there a video of it anywhere?

admin answers:

It’s called Show Your Stuff.

Jenny asks…

what are some good hobbies for kids?

what are some good things to collect?

admin answers:

Maybe give 3d origami a try? It’s really fun, that’s my hobby. You can go to youtube.com and type in the search box 3d origami. Pick any of them and all tutorials should keep you busy for a while. These take up a lot of time and patience, but if you get the hang of it, it becomes fun and rewarding.

Here’s an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEqx1wwdW…

If you don’t want to keep them, you can sell it for a lot of money, but you need to learn how to make the basic triangle piece for 3d origami and they have that on youtube too.

Here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFPTOAdEe…

I hope you give that a try. Go for it! If you need help on it, you can always let me know and I’ll try to help.

Joseph asks…

Why do most parents dont support their kids hobbies..dancing?

for the past 2 years, ive grown to love dance, i went to a show 2 years ago and i was inspired to dance, i love dancing and i want to take it up as a hobby not to be a professional one, so far ive been training for the past year, and ive competed with my crew twice and we won 1st place, the issue is my parents dont support dancing and they dont want me to dance how do i tell them that this is what i love to do for a hobby and not professionally, im taking management and accounting in college and i want to be an accountant hopefully, they say that dancing is forbidden and its not good and music is forbidden (abomination in their view), why are they like this, im not doing anything wrong im taking up hip hop its not a bad thing its not like im a stripper, or partnering the opposite sex, ive made so many friends and met so many people and its completely changed my life, how do i convince them that this is just a hobby and not something i want to do professionally, i have lots of opportunities and shows and i usually have to stay till 11pm and go home why are they worried, im not sitting with bad people or doing anything wrong, im 18 btw, help please?

admin answers:

You are old enough to buy alcohol and cigarettes, go to war for your country, and get married. Why can’t you sign up for dance classes? Time to cut the cord and start making your own mature adult decisions.

Charles asks…

What are good hobbies and talents for kids with ADHD?other than sports and art?

music what??
i am the kid with adhd, but thanks!

admin answers:

You took watch some really good anime like Full Metal Alchemist and Code Geass or read manga. If you decide you like anime then maybe you will appreciate it enough to start cosplaying which is costume role-playing as characters from the shows or even making your own costumes (buying is fine, too). It could become a talent/ hobby for you if you give it time. Also, listening to soft, melodic music from bands, such as, Evanescence, Florence & the Machine and Sia could help and taking on photography as a hobby is pretty pulchritudinous(in my opinion). Well, have fun with that. I hope you find something suitable.

Linda asks…

Which are the best ways of motivating our kids for taking hobbies?

admin answers:

Tell em that they’ll be more respectful in the society, win rewards and gifts if they pursue hobbies and can become popular in their school and amongst friends. U know wht i mean ? And kids need rewards to do anything other than what they really wanna do. Every kid wanna be popular. So ask them to take up a piano or guitar lesson(if they have that inclination for music). That should work.

Your Questions About Hobbies For Women

What were the typical activities/hobbies/interests of women in the 1910s?

I have to make a women‘s magazine that is pertinent for the years 1914-1920 for a history project, and I’m trying to figure out what kind of material to put in it. Basically, I haven’t been able to find the hobbies of women in the 1910s. If you have any ideas, that would be great!

What are some hobbies for women from biblical times?

I am wondering if most women had time to enjoy a hobby, and if they did – what would it be?

admin answers:

Nothing that we think of as a hobby. The little free time they had would be during their cycles. That was when they were sequestered away from men’s company and not allowed to work. For five days every month, they could pamper themselves, sing, tell stories to other women also having cycles then, and work on mending. It was like a mini-vacation compared to the rest of their month.

I still wonder why we gave that up.

What are some hobbies for women going through a loss?

Over three years ago I gave my baby up for open adoption because I felt I was not fiancially nor mentally mature enough to raise a child. Now that I have matured, I find myself missing her more and more. I have been contemplating picking up a hobby so that I can take my mind of things and start the healing process that I had thought I had completed 2 years ago. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking something crafty/working with hands. Thanks!

admin answers:

Well, this almost certainly won’t take your mind off your daughter, but if it isn’t too emotional for you to do, it might be healing for you and her. And it is crafty.

The craft is scrapbooking, but this is a very particular type of scapbook called a lifebook. A lifebook is a special book that helps an adopted child come to terms with her beginnings. I have been working on one for my daughter, and even though it is not finished, she loves to look at it and it often brings up very strong emotions.

Here is a link to a post by a first mother who discusses making a lifebook for her son:

This blog entry describes a first mother and adoptive mother that worked on a lifebook together. I don’t know if that could work for you, but it might be very healing for your daughter:

I wish you all the best in your healing journey, whatever forms it may take.

What are good casual hobbies for women?

My friend is having a hard time finding a hobby she likes. She has tried pottery and art but doesn’t like the time it takes to get good enough for her to enjoy the hobby. Things like cooking and sewing don’t really appeal to her as much either. What else is there she can try?
I didn’t mean women specifically, it was just added information. I would like ideas for hobbies, they don’t have to be gender specific. She has tried scrap booking and doesn’t like it as much and she hates cars (I work on cars)

admin answers:

Building furniture

Lizzie asks…

Do women have hobbies as obsessive as men’s and if so what are they?

My Girlfriend and I are having a debate as to whether or not women had hobbies that took up inordinate amounts of their freetime. I play Dungeons & Dragons and routinely spend 8 or more hours on a saturday playing with my friends and spend a lot of time during the week preparing for the game.

I know there are many other hobbies men participate in that suck up this kind of time like restoring old cars, historical reenactment, any kind of collecting, etc.

So women what are your obsessive hobbies??? What do you do with your freetime, especially in today’s busy world?

admin answers:

Scrapbooking for me. Usually takes me hours to do one layout. Costs alot of money for the supplies and it sucks you in and before you know it your addicted. Just like the video games men paly and your Dungeons and Dragons.

Robert asks…

dusting?
