Your Questions About Hobbies For Men

Ruth asks…

What are some hard or technical hobbies for men?

I’m into guitar and art but am looking for some more technical hobbies, like maybe computer programming. I’m an engineering student and want something challenging.

admin answers:

Hello there,

You could always try designing and building speaker cabinets. Something to run as a extension cab with your amp. A nice mix of electronics and woodworking.

Later,

Sharon asks…

What are some hobbies for men who have retired and have a vast amount of time on their hands?

Any ideas other than television are welcome. And thank you.

admin answers:

Whoa!! That’s a question i could answer all day long….

Collecting shells or other natural history items. Takes a lot of knowledge, and is an almost never-ending pursuit, limited only by time and money!!

Model railroads

Building models of ships, cars or other man-made things to scale, accurately.

Serially finding people to help in various areas of life, whether online or in non-virtual (aka “real”) life.

Designing then actually DOING inexpensive experiments which shed light upon questions that actually matter to a lot of folks. This could be immensely rewarding, and would require a lot of “homework” researching the relevant literature.

Making detailed observations of various animals or habitats or ocean conditions or weather patterns in the area where they live. This would be fairly active: you’d have to go out in all kinds of conditions and in all seasons to make the observations necessary to make the resulting data-set useful to researchers.

Do a lot of reading and data-crunching, then take a modest amount of money and see how much you can make it grow investing in the stock market.

Learning something from scratch, such as fine French or Italian cooking.

The list is only limited by imagination, health, and access to resources.

William asks…

What are some good hobbies for men to get into?

I’m open to any suggestion.

admin answers:

Well model trains is always a good and sure fire hobby…im 51 and have around 70 trains myself and have 2 different layouts going…the nice thing is theres a gauge to fit any 1s room availability…im into HO myself and theres so many different thing out there for 1 to buy to dress a board out u would never get bored with it and if uve got a son or daughter its a hobby u can pass on to them ive got my own group if u decide on trains let me know and ill share my tips with u

Joseph asks…

Hobbies men find attractive in women?

Just wondering Every guy is different, but are there any fairly universal hobbies females partake in that makes the girl seem even more attractive? Examples: A woman who cooks, drives a motorcycle, paints/art, reads, etc..
I’m interested to see because in a way hobbies represent a connection from the superficial to the meaningful: Looks are just superficial, Personality traits and core of who you are, obviously deep and meaningful, and then hobbies seem to borrow from both of those categories, since they represent something about the person, yet arent who they are in specific. So are there any hobbies/interests you think are attractive for a girl to have (or combination of different hobbies), and if you can think of it, what makes it seem attractive? Thanks!

admin answers:

Making sandwiches and I’m serious on that one.

Laura asks…

What are some good inexpensive hobbies for men who are disabled and have very little room to work in?

admin answers:

Stamp collecting
small garden
scrapbooking
reading
solitaire
bird watching
coin collecting
learn to fix small electronics
models (cars, planes etc etc)

Mary asks…

what are some hobbies for men during victorian era? ?

im doing this report where i have to be a victorian person. thus i need to explain my hobbies as a victorian person which i unfortunately don’t have. please help me

admin answers:

Well depends , the peasants worked and cooked and so on , the bourgeois , they often read , went to theatres , operas , so on

Linda asks…

Hobbies for Men?

My boyfriend wants to take up a new hobby to pass the time but hasn’t been sure of what he wants to do. Can anyone here suggest any cool, fun or interesting hobbies that are good for men other than sports, video games, gambling and porn.

admin answers:

Um, that pretty much covered it unless you want to suggest stamp collecting.

Your Questions About My Tips 1 X 2

Carol asks…

Tips for how to integrate x^2*sqrt(1-x^2)?

I’ve been going my old calculus II book to do some freshening up in my integration skills and this one is throwing me for a loop.
My ti89 and the answer key gives the same answer of: (arcsin(x)+x*sqrt(1-x^2)-2x(1-x^2)^(3/2))/8 i know the integral for the sqrt(1-x^2) is (arcsin(x)+x*sqrt(1-x^2)
I attempted to solve via integration by parts and then a trig substitution which led me to about 4 more iterations of parts integration but i just feel that i am making this problem longer than it is. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

admin answers:

Integral ( x^2 sqrt(1 – x^2) dx )

Use trig substitution.

Let x = sin(t). Then
dx = cos(t) dt.

Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(1 – sin^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(cos^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos(t)cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos^2(t) dt )

Express as the square of a product.

Integral ( [sin(t)cos(t)]^2 dt )

Use the identity sin(t)cos(t) = (1/2)sin(2t).

Integral ( [(1/2)sin(2t)]^2 dt )
Integral ( (1/4)sin^2(2t) dt )
(1/4) Integral ( sin^2(2t) dt )

Use the half angle identity
sin^2(y) + (1/2)(1 – cos(2t)).
Therefore
sin^2(2t) = (1/2)(1 – cos(4t)).

(1/4) Integral ( (1/2) (1 – cos(4t)) dt )
(1/8) Integral ( (1 – cos(4t)) dt )

Integrate normally.

(1/8) [ t - (1/4)sin(4t)) ] + C
(1/8)t – (1/32)sin(4t) + C

To put back in terms of x, first break down sin(4t) into single sines and cosines.

Sin(4t) = sin(2*2t)
= 2sin(2t)cos(2t)
= 2[2sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]
= [4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]

(1/8)t – (1/32)[4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C
(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

To convert back in terms of x, recall that we let
x = sin(t). This means
sin(t) = x/1 = opp/hyp.

Opp = x
hyp = 1, so by Pythagoras,
adj = sqrt(1 – x^2)

cos(t) = adj/hyp = sqrt(1 – x^2)/1 = sqrt(1 – x^2)

Replace sin(t) with x and cos(t) with sqrt(1 – x^2).
Also, since x = sin(t), it follows that t = arcsin(x), so replace the single t with arcsin(x).

(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

becomes

(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – x^2 – x^2 ) + C
(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – 2x^2 ) + C

Mary asks…

Definite integral from -7 to 1 of sqrt (64-x^2)?

I have been working on this problem for a few hours trying many ways to solve it by using integration by parts and substitution but I have yet figured it out.

The question asks to integrate by parts and use the multiply by 1 trick so thats how I started off but I get stuck at something I need to integrate. I used some trig substitution which is new to me and I dont think I will write down my failed steps but I will show how far that I got up to and am sure is correct.

So i have integral from -7 to 1 of 1* sqrt (64-x^2)

I set u to sqrt (64-x^2) which means u’ is -x/sqrt(64-x^2) and v’ is 1 which means v is x.

integration by parts is uv – integral of v*u’ :

[x*sqrt(64-x^2)] {-7 to 1} – integral x* -x/sqrt(64-x^2)

So i get to:

[x*sqrt(64-x^2)] {-7 to 1} + integral x^2/sqrt(64-x^2) and i get stuck there.

I tried using that x = 8sint substitution that i have read about but it appears to be failing me. Any tips? You do not have to outright solve it but guide me along closer to the finish.

Laura asks…

Can you help me it my x-y intercept problem(s) for calculus?

find the x and y intercepts of:

1. x^3 – 4x^2 – 12x

2. 2x / x^2 – 9 [ this / means over]

3. 6x / 2x + 3

4. Sqrt of (x) * (x – 6)

Thanks for your help. Just at least help me with some if not all! Showing work helps me a lot to. Thanks

Some helpful tips:

X-intercept: put 0 in for Y
Y- intercept: put 0 in for x

admin answers:

The y-intercept is the easiest thing in the world to find.

Just let x = 0 (which you obviously already know) and calculate
Calculating with lots of zeroes is pretty easy.

Y-intercepts:

1. Y = 0 – 0 – 0 = 0
2. Y = 0/(9-0) = 0
3. Y = 0/(0+3) = 0
4. Y = 0 * -6 = 0

X-intercepts are a little trickier
You need to let y=0 and solve for x (this often requires factoring and letting each factor = 0)

1.

X^3 – 4x^2 – 12x = 0
x (x^2 – 4x – 12) = 0
x (x – 6) (x + 2) = 0
x = 0, 6, -2

2.

2x / (x^2 – 9) = 0 . . . . . . . If numerator = 0, then whole fraction = 0
2x = 0
x = 0

3.

Similar to #2

4.

Sqrt(x) * (x-6) = 0 . . . This one’s already factored, so it’s pretty easy
x = 0, 6

HELP!! Dancing in 4 1/2 in heels x.x?

My jr/sr prom is THIS Saturday ! I’m wearing 4 1/2 inch heels. Does any1 have any tips or advice for me? I’ve never danced in heels this high none-the-less worn them!
Any help I can get will be VERY appreciated.

admin answers:

I literally laughed because i’m currently wearing 4 1/2 in heels and about to go to a club!

Its really easy trust me.. Make sure they FIT WELL! Dont want them to slightly come off, comfortable and try walking in them just so you can get the feel of them

you’ll be fine, but dance a little slow at first and eventually get faster cus trust me girl falling and wearing heels not good! ALSO please tell me you know how to walk in them, cus theres no use in wearing them if you can’t walk in them ):

good luck! I’m sure you’ll be fine!

Lizzie asks…

How would i integrate the following using the substitution given?

i) x√(x-1) –> x=1+u^2
ii)1/(4+x^2)^(3/2) –> x=2tanθ
iii)x^2/√(1-x^2) –> x=sinθ

Substitution seems to be my weekest point, have you got any tips for me?

admin answers:

(i)

x = 1+ u²
dx = 2udu

and x√(x-1) = (1+ u²).√(1 + u² – 1)

= √u².(1 + u²)

= u(1 + u²)
So
∫[x√(x-1)dx ------------> ∫[u(1 + u²)2udu

= 2.∫u²(1 + u²)du

= 2.∫[u² + u^4]du

This is now in a form which you will readily recognise and can easily be integrated. Once the integration is carried out you then change back to x as the variable.

(ii) x = 2tanθ so dx = 2sec²θdθ

and 1/(4+x²)^(3/2) = 1/(4 + 4tan²θ) ^3/2

= 1 / [4(1 + tan²θ)]^3/2

= 1 / [4 sec²θ]^3/2

= 1 / 8(sec³θ)

∫[dx / (4+x²)^(3/2)]—————> ∫[2sec²θdθ / 8(sec³θ)]

= (1/4).∫[dθ/secθ]

=(1/4).∫cosθ.dθ.

Again this is one you know and after integration change back to x.

(iii) x=sinθ, dx = cosθdθ

and
x² / √( 1 – x² )

= sin²θ / √(1 – sin²θ)

= sin²θ / √(cos²θ)

= sin²θ / cosθ

∫[x² / √( 1 - x² )]dx ————->∫[sin²θ / cosθ]cosθdθ

= ∫sin²θ.dθ.

This is now in standard form and we can use identity

sin²θ = (1/2)[1 - cos2θ] to carry out integration.

∫sin²θ.dθ = ∫ (1/2)[1 - cos2θ]dθ

TIPS.Note the use of the identities

1 + tan²θ = sec²θ

and cos²θ + sin²θ = 1.

When you have an expression such as

a² – x² you would tend to look at substitutions such as

x = a.sinθ or x = a.cosθ

so for example
a² – x² = a² – a² sin²θ

= a²(1 – sin²θ )

= a²cos²θ
and
a² + x² put x = a tanθ

a² + x² = a² + a²tan²θ

= a²(1 + tan²θ )

= a²sec²θ

There are only two basic methods of integration.

(1) Substitution

(2) Integration by parts

Many integration problems can be evaluated using either of these methods or a combination of both.

admin answers:

I rate you deck a 4/10. After last years September banned list, which banned rescue cat. The X-Saber deck swifted from a really aggressive offensive play style to a more defensive one. This change has altered the deck a bit making the primary tuner FullhelmKnight and leaving Airbellum almost useless. With the deck having a defense first mentality and an explosive offense that can overwhelm an opponent. An X-Saber deck is truly a powerful deck, when built right. With that said your deck is not bad but not efficient either. What makes an X-Saber deck really good is its search engine. With three Emmersblade and Three Darksoul getting what you need is never a problem. So getting two to three Emmersblade and two more Darksoul should be your first priority. Also keeping in mind that this format there is some really aggressive decks(Six Samurai, Fish, ect) and with X-Saber not being as fast as they uses to. Having one to two Effect Veiler is highly recommended. As for your Spells, Traps, and extra deck, not bad but needs a little bit of work. Here is what i recommend for your deck.

If you want a really efficient deck try my build.

Both are good but I prefer my build better. They play the same but the hamster tech in the friends deck does lead to some good combos. Although I end up getting my synchros out faster most of the time. As for the Pot Of Duality if you can get them in your deck, go for it. They do help out the deck at the start of the duel when you are setting up a good play. As you can see i don’t run them and my deck plays just the same. Oh yeah you absolutely need two Solemn Warnings!

Use trig substitution.

Let x = sin(t). Then

Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(1 – sin^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(cos^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos(t)cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos^2(t) dt )

Express as the square of a product.

Integral ( [sin(t)cos(t)]^2 dt )

Use the identity sin(t)cos(t) = (1/2)sin(2t).

Integral ( [(1/2)sin(2t)]^2 dt )
Integral ( (1/4)sin^2(2t) dt )
(1/4) Integral ( sin^2(2t) dt )

Use the half angle identity
sin^2(y) + (1/2)(1 – cos(2t)).
Therefore
sin^2(2t) = (1/2)(1 – cos(4t)).

(1/4) Integral ( (1/2) (1 – cos(4t)) dt )
(1/8) Integral ( (1 – cos(4t)) dt )

Integrate normally.

(1/8) [ t - (1/4)sin(4t)) ] + C
(1/8)t – (1/32)sin(4t) + C

To put back in terms of x, first break down sin(4t) into single sines and cosines.

Sin(4t) = sin(2*2t)
= 2sin(2t)cos(2t)
= 2[2sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]
= [4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]

(1/8)t – (1/32)[4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C
(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

To convert back in terms of x, recall that we let

Opp = x
hyp = 1, so by Pythagoras,

Replace sin(t) with x and cos(t) with sqrt(1 – x^2).
Also, since x = sin(t), it follows that t = arcsin(x), so replace the single t with arcsin(x).

(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

becomes

(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – x^2 – x^2 ) + C
(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – 2x^2 ) + C

1. Y = 0 – 0 – 0 = 0
2. Y = 0/(9-0) = 0
3. Y = 0/(0+3) = 0
4. Y = 0 * -6 = 0

X-intercepts are a little trickier
You need to let y=0 and solve for x (this often requires factoring and letting each factor = 0)

1.

X^3 – 4x^2 – 12x = 0
x (x^2 – 4x – 12) = 0
x (x – 6) (x + 2) = 0
x = 0, 6, -2

2.

2x / (x^2 – 9) = 0 . . . . . . . If numerator = 0, then whole fraction = 0
2x = 0
x = 0

3.

Similar to #2

4.

Sqrt(x) * (x-6) = 0 . . . This one’s already factored, so it’s pretty easy
x = 0, 6

Helen asks…

How would i integrate the following using the substitution given?

i) x√(x-1) –> x=1+u^2
ii)1/(4+x^2)^(3/2) –> x=2tanθ
iii)x^2/√(1-x^2) –> x=sinθ

Substitution seems to be my weekest point, have you got any tips for me?

admin answers:

(i)

x = 1+ u²
dx = 2udu

and x√(x-1) = (1+ u²).√(1 + u² – 1)

= √u².(1 + u²)

= u(1 + u²)
So
∫[x√(x-1)dx ------------> ∫[u(1 + u²)2udu

= 2.∫u²(1 + u²)du

= 2.∫[u² + u^4]du

This is now in a form which you will readily recognise and can easily be integrated. Once the integration is carried out you then change back to x as the variable.

(ii) x = 2tanθ so dx = 2sec²θdθ

and 1/(4+x²)^(3/2) = 1/(4 + 4tan²θ) ^3/2

= 1 / [4(1 + tan²θ)]^3/2

= 1 / [4 sec²θ]^3/2

= 1 / 8(sec³θ)

∫[dx / (4+x²)^(3/2)]—————> ∫[2sec²θdθ / 8(sec³θ)]

= (1/4).∫[dθ/secθ]

=(1/4).∫cosθ.dθ.

Again this is one you know and after integration change back to x.

(iii) x=sinθ, dx = cosθdθ

and
x² / √( 1 – x² )

= sin²θ / √(1 – sin²θ)

= sin²θ / √(cos²θ)

= sin²θ / cosθ

∫[x² / √( 1 - x² )]dx ————->∫[sin²θ / cosθ]cosθdθ

= ∫sin²θ.dθ.

This is now in standard form and we can use identity

sin²θ = (1/2)[1 - cos2θ] to carry out integration.

∫sin²θ.dθ = ∫ (1/2)[1 - cos2θ]dθ

TIPS.Note the use of the identities

1 + tan²θ = sec²θ

and cos²θ + sin²θ = 1.

When you have an expression such as

a² – x² you would tend to look at substitutions such as

x = a.sinθ or x = a.cosθ

so for example
a² – x² = a² – a² sin²θ

Trap:11
Gottoms Emergency call x3
Solemn Warning x2
Bottomless Trap Hole x2
Trap Stun x2
Solemn Judgment x1
Mirror Force x1
Torrential Tribute x1

Both are good but I prefer my build better. They play the same but the hamster tech in the friends deck does lead to some good combos. Although I end up getting my synchros out faster most of the time. As for the Pot Of Duality if you can get them in your deck, go for it. They do help out the deck at the start of the duel when you are setting up a good play. As you can see i don’t run them and my deck plays just the same. Oh yeah you absolutely need two Solemn Warnings!

Your Questions About My Tips Taxable

Richard asks…

Taxable tips?

As a server, does the law require that you declare 100% of your tip income? My employer has said to claim 10% of my sales (almost 100%) and I am just curious what the law is. I am not concerned with fudging, I just want to know if employer’s have a say, or choose a standard, and what the IRS says.

admin answers:

Yes you have to claim 100% of your tips, however, any tips totaling under $20 for the month are not subject to social security & medicare. If your tips are less that the average for the business you work for (probably the 10% of sales figure your employer gave you), you need to keep a record of your tips (a tip diary) for documentation if the IRS requests it.

Lisa asks…

tips earned are taxable but…?

Tips earned are taxable but is there a % of how much I should report to IRS or my employer? let’s say I earned $100 for tips, should I report the whole amount or can I report $80 only?

admin answers:

You’re supposed to report the full amount, but few do. I’ve attached a link about tip reporting.

Paul asks…

It looks like 100% of my wife’s tips are taken out of her paycheck?

On her paystub under GROSS REPORTED TIPS it reads $215. To the right in the section with medicare, fed tax, ss tax, etc. it shows that same $215 deducted from her pay. What gives? I realize that the tips are taxable, but doesn’t something seem off that 100% of her tips go to the fed and get taken out of her check? What’s the point in receiving tips if they ALL come out of your paycheck??

admin answers:

You are misunderstanding what’s happening.

The tips are added to her other income at the top before taxes are calculated on them. Then they’re subtracted back out since she has already gotten them. You’re forgetting she goes home with them in her pocket – so while the employer has to add them to her wages to calculate the tax, they then subtract them back out since she already has them.

Sharon asks…

I get my tips back in cash…..how does this work with taxes?

I work at a baseball stadium as a vendor. It’s my first job. I get paid commission and then keep my tips. Just a coupel days ago, my dad told me tips are taxable. Luckily, I have kept track of all my tips in an envelope.

Here’s the thing: I get my tips in cash. I give my manager the money I was given at the beginning plus what I sold and then I take the tips home in cahs. I don’t report them or anything.

So how do I go about this? Am I supposed to report my tips at work (I’ve already worked a while now….that would be tough)? How do I get taxed if it’s all in cash? The tips do not show on the paycheck.

admin answers:

Yes you are supposed to report them at work, and they are supposed to withhold tax on it. If they are not having you report them, you still have to report them on your tax return. Start by asking at work how you report your tips to them. This is if you’re an employee.

If you’re considered an independent contractor, then you just report the tips the same as your commission.

Ruth asks…

Paycheck with Tips Deducted?

My wife recently started working at a small bar part time.(California) Her first check was very questionable. He hired her at $8.00 and hour. Her first check was for 22 hours. That came to $176.00. He had kept track of her tips and put $59.00 down for income of tips. Total $235.00 He then took out $29.00 for Taxes. He did not list if it was State, Federal, SDI, just taxes. Then minused $59.00 back out after taxes for her tips. Is this right? I understand Tips are taxable income yet he ran them through the tax then minused out the entire $59.00 after taxes. is that correct? What about the taxes?

admin answers:

This does not seem right. I would definitely speak with your employer to ask how they came to that calculation. Most jobs that have tipping involved require the worker to report all tips actually earned. That amount is added to the hourly wage (gross income) then taxes are deducted based on local, state, and federal tax reporting laws and requirements.

He should not “assume” an amount that was earned from tips, but rely on the employee to report that amount earned. I would definitely question him how he came to that result.

If she is owed wages, most states have a procedure for filing a wage claim against the employer.

You can also try a paycheck calculator to see if her final pay was accurate.

Hope that helps.
Dale

Sandra asks…

Are independently contracted drivers taxed on tips?

I am a college student considering taking a part time summer job as a food delivery driver. I would be considered an independent contractor, but I am unsure whether or not any tips I get would be taxable. I have to use my own car and my own insurance

admin answers:

Yes. All the income is taxable. Have you checked into the proper insurance? If you carry food for delivery your insurance will go up by 3 or 4 times.

Donald asks…

How to fill in 1040NR-EZ Form?

I was an international worker in Washington D.C. in 2006. I got a J-1 Visa (still a student). And I am not in the States right now.

When I filled in the 1040NR-EZ Form, I had some questions.

1.) For line 3 (Wages, Salaries, tips, the Taxable Income):
I received regular salaries. But I was a waiter, so I also got tips. Could I just write down the exact amount specified on Box-1 (Wages, tips, other comp.) on my W-2 Form, or should I add my tips as well? (if yes, how much need i put in?)

2.) For line 11 (Itemized deductions):
Could I write down the amount on Box-2(Federal income tax withheld) only? Or should I add the amount on Box-2 and Box-17(State income tax) together?

3.) My W-2 Form includes copies for “Federal Filling Copy,” “D.C. Filling Copy,” and “City or Local Filling”. Should I attach all the three copies on my 1040NR-WZ Form?

I’ll truly appreciate for your help!

admin answers:

1) You need to include your tips as if they were part of your pay.

2) Itemized deductions are not the same as taxes withheld. You get a choice between a “standard deduction” or a list of “itemized deductions”. If you didn’t purchase a home in the US with a bank loan, and if you didn’t have an excessive amount of hospital bills in 2006, you’ll probably just use the standard deduction. Your taxes withheld go at the bottom of the form on a different line.

3) Attach the “federal copy” to your fedral 1040 only. The only reason you would use the other copies is if you have to fill out a seperate income tax form for Washington DC taxes. Otherwise, they’re yours to keep.

(These are easy questions. No need to call for tax help. By the way, as a citizen of the US, I’d like to thank you for being honest with your taxes. When you hear Americans being angry with “non-residents” and migrant workers, you’re not the one we’re angry at. You’re one of the good ones. Heartfelt thanks, and come back again soon.)

Your Questions About My Tips Au Prizes

Maria asks…

Messy situation , will you please vote to help me out of it?

i should probably be asking for cleaning and organising tips before anything!

will you please vote for my pic? (provided you think i’m messy enough to deserve it!)

mine has a Red Border
and it’s titled “welcome..”

http://www.whoisthemessiest.com.au/showcase.php

yes, that is my mess *hides in shame!*. i am hoping the prize might help me with some storage solutions! thanks, let me know if you vote!

admin answers:

Yes I did vote, just so that the sooner declared winner you can clean up all of that. So let’s start

1) To help fight boredom, put on some music you like while you clean.
2) This is where the music will really help: start with your closet, put all clean clothes where they belong (hangers, etc.) dirty clothes in a hamper, or laundry basket. Remember to put your shoes in the closet too. Then, your dresser-make sure all clean clothes are put away in proper order (underwear in top drawer, etc.,), Dust and declutter the top of the dresser, put things back where they belong. Same with desk, table, chair, etc. Have you changed the sheets on your bed yet this week? If not, please do so. Then Vacuum (or sweep the floor if hardwood), take out the trash. Done!
Now, the trick is this: to keep it up daily–if you have dirty dishes in your room, take them out to the kitchen as soon as you are done eating/drinking. Have a place for your papers, a file folder, etc. Make sure all surfaces are de-cluttered before you go to bed. Make your bed every morning when you first get up. You only need to dust and vacuum and take the trash out once per week (unless you have a lot of trash). Basically, it’s have a place for everything, and everything in it’s place. Being organized helps keep things clean/tidy.
3) For storage bins, I would suggest IKEA/Wal-Mart/K-Mart,
for inexpensive but good storage bins.
Have fun. Take care.

Entering Dolly magazine’s Neighbours (a popular TV show in Australia) audition. Have any tips etc.?

See http://dolly.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=578261

It says I need to send in a video of me performing a script (found in the latest Dolly magazine), and also a CV (I think that’s a resume?) and a headshot photo of myself.

I’m 12 (nearly 13) and have never done any performances or anything, but I’ve been doing Drama at my highschool this year and am really enjoying it and people say I’m doing really well!

Is there anything I really need to know? Would would I need to include in my CV? Would they consider me seeing as I’m not experienced in acting?

The prize is a contract on Neighbours for 6 weeks, which may be extended to up to three years!

All comments + tips etc. are appreciated! Thanks : )
P.S. – I also want to stand out in a crowd! After all, there will be a lot of people entering!

admin answers:

Go after your dreams. Be sure to mention ” Although I have no professional trainer in acting, I feel its just one of those that isn’t mandatory in being taught. However, if it is meant for you, you will learn naturally.” Also be sure to mention you have however that you have been participating in your high school drama. Keep in mind, a smile is cute so be sure to stay confident and smile.

It says I need to send in a video of me performing a script (found in the latest Dolly magazine, which I have), and also a CV (I think that’s a resume?) and a headshot photo of myself.

I’m 12 (turning 13 this month) and have never done any performances or anything, but I’ve been doing Drama at my highschool this year and am really enjoying it and people have been complimenting me and saying I’m doing really well (I really don’t mean to sound full of myself, but it is true that people say that)!

Is there anything I really need to know? Would would I need to include in my CV? Would they consider me seeing as I’m not experienced in acting?

The main prize is a 6-week to 3-year contract on Neighbours!

I’m basically looking for ways to stand out in the crowd (there will be heaps of people entering!) as well as learn any other tips and comments etc. – all of which are appreciated : )

admin answers:

Your CV is your resume. Remember to put the most recent thing first, and divide it up into categories: e.g. Academic qualifications (obviously you’re quite young so won’t have many of these yet – don’t worry! Just include the schools you go / have been to), Work Experience, and Talents & Skills. If you have any vocational qualifications (e.g. Singing grades, dance exams, regional diving champion etc) then include those too.

Put in everything you can think of, even if it doesn’t seem relevant. Your startling ability to waterski may not seem worth mentioning but seem like it’ll make much difference to a soap based in a small dead-end street but if you’ve got something they can use, then they’ll be interested, because there’s no point in having actors who can’t do anything of use. They can always write things into the script, and you’ll find yourself waterskiing on national TV in no time!! Having said that, be concise, and don’t go over the top (e.g. “I once beat my friend at Connect 4 sixteen times in one afternoon)”. When it comes to your CV, you can’t say things like “everyone says I’m really good” – although that’s great that they say that, and obviously you can keep that thought in your head to give yourself confidence and drive, they won’t care, and it won’t look good.

Ditto what the poster above said in terms of character: do something different. Watch some episodes of Neighbours and see who is missing. Bree (? – it’s been a while since I watched it, and I’m in the UK so we’re behind!) did that whole goth-look already, so I wouldn’t recommend that. But which “group” isn’t being represented? Who would you, as a viewer, like to see on screen when you watch it every day? If you can have reasoning behind why you think that your character would be invaluable to the story, then they will be far more likely to take notice.

Good luck! The entire student population of Britain will be behind you!!

Entering the Dolly magazine TV show audition. How can I stand out (for the right reasons)?

See http://dolly.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=578261

It says I need to send in a video of me performing a script (in the latest Dolly magazine), and also a CV (resume) and a headshot photo of myself. The script is a monologue about a girl talking about her 1st day @ school and her feelings – good and bad.

I’m 12 (13 tomorrow!!) and have never done any performances or anything, but I’ve been doing Drama at my highschool this year and am really enjoying it and people have been complimenting me and saying I’m doing really well (I really don’t mean to sound full of myself, but it is true that people say that).

Is there anything I really need to know? What should I include in my CV? Would they consider me seeing as I’m not experienced in acting?

The main prize is a 6-week to 3-year contract on the popular Aussie show, Neighbours!

I’m basically looking for ways to stand out in the crowd as well as learn any other tips and comments etc. – all of which are appreciated!

admin answers:

First of all, the video. I think it’s best that before recording, to practise in front of a mirror until you know what you’re supposed to say. After you’re comfortable with that, it esential that you ‘perform’ in front of an audience. Not anything big of course, just a couple of your friends (who won’t laugh at you!) Not only will it result in making you more comfortable with your monologue, but it will also give you and idea of what it may actually be like in the filming process. It won’t just be you and the camera on a Neighbours set!

Next, the CV. Don’t worry if you haven’t had any profesional experience. I dont think that they’ll expect professionals to audition for this anyways. They’re looking for fresh talent. However, what you can do, is put down what performances you have done, say, in school productions, whether you got leads or not, awards you may have received for drama ane etc. It’s not boasting, really, its just showing what you’ve got. Also, try to add in interesting things about yourself. Like what sports you may do, any charitable work, stuff like that. Don’t be afraid of doing it! In about the first 5 minutes of looking at your CV they’ll make a judgement, so what would you like them to think? You’re an inexperienced bore, or a competent, fun and interesting person, one that would be a pleasure to have on set? Go figure.

But remember, as this is your first time in audtioning, you shouldn’t expect to be chosen. If you are, that’s great, but if you aren’t, it will have been a worth while experience anyway. Learn from it and your mistakes, but what am I saying?! Enjoy it!

Your Questions About My Tipster

Donna asks…

What are my rights as a “crimestoppers” police tipster?

I am interested in reporting a possible felony to a police agency. But I don’t want them to coerce me into giving information or denying me my compensation for any reason. Am I required to divulge the information if they do not make me feel secure or comfortable with making the report?
I am concerned about the crime, my safety, and I would like compensation for taking the risk.

admin answers:

For those very reasons you are reluctant crimestoppers is not part of the police but a community organization.
You can remain anonymous. They give you a number for ID.
Please be aware that it up to the people at crimestoppers what you compensation, if any, is.

Even if a reward has been publicized the rewards normally are contingent upon arrest and conviction. If your info is of the type where you are needed for conviction or for a warrant and you do not cooperate you get nil.

Luckily for most of us others actually believe in public service and their duty to the society or no one would be safe in their homes or on the streets.

Sharon asks…

Who is the best horse racing tipster to follow please?

my booky keeps beating me, need serious help lol! only betting small ampounts but i am pants at picking horses!

admin answers:

My simple advice:

Get the Daily Racing Form (DRF).

For the first four races on a card, calculate who is on-point. (On-point meaning: What handicapper listed in the DRF is picking winners, or at least horses that are showing).

After that, handicap as you would, but play credence to the “hot hand.” (the DRF handicapper that is on-point)

As stated, this advice only works for large claiming ($35,000), bona-fide allowance, or major stakes (G2+) races.

If you are trying to pick a mule at RiverDowns (or other small-priced tracks), choose a number, because all the handicapping advice in the world will not help.

There is a lot more handicapping advice out there, which in time, you will learn. However, if you follow the advice provided off the bat, you will get a good start in the game.

How do I stop graffiti on my grandparents wall?

I put this in the immigration section cause I’m not sure where else it goes. There is this gang here called w*e*t [email protected] pride (not correct spelling but you know what it means). They are kinda like the Mexica Movement and think that all whites, Asians, blacks, basically anyone who is not a Latino, needs to leave the country. Theyre illegal from Mex and trying to “take the US back”. They put WBP everywhere on their “turf” and keep doing it on my grandparents brick wall, they live on a corner. One night I came home from my friends house and saw one of them doing it, I walked out but he ran away like a coward. I called the cops, they said they have to have proof of them doing it, I called the Graffiti Tipster line and left a message months ago, nothing has been done. This is a costly problem, I know where some of the WBP members live and their parents. What can I do to stop this, my grandparents do not need to worry about this on top of all other things in our lives.

admin answers:

:[ That’s pretty sad, You can buy these fake security cameras from cheap shops etc, That have flashing lights, They don’t record, They just appear too, They won’t cost too much, Put it above the spot where they graffiti, Chances are they will either see it, smash it, or not graffiti at all. Maybe put some censor lights or use a camera or video recorder to catch them in the act, and take it to police, possibly even wait until they are near the property and ring police asap.

There is not too much you can do, Only hope these idiots will give up and have some respect. Maybe even put a sign saying, Please do not graffitti & take it off when the day starts,
You may even need to get some of your neighbors involved, Make a ctizens arrest, these vandals should be caught and deported.

Your Questions About My Tips 1 X 2

George asks…

Then
dx = cos(t) dt.

Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(1 – sin^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(cos^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos(t)cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos^2(t) dt )

Express as the square of a product.

Integral ( [sin(t)cos(t)]^2 dt )

Use the identity sin(t)cos(t) = (1/2)sin(2t).

Integral ( [(1/2)sin(2t)]^2 dt )
Integral ( (1/4)sin^2(2t) dt )
(1/4) Integral ( sin^2(2t) dt )

Use the half angle identity
sin^2(y) + (1/2)(1 – cos(2t)).
Therefore
sin^2(2t) = (1/2)(1 – cos(4t)).

(1/4) Integral ( (1/2) (1 – cos(4t)) dt )
(1/8) Integral ( (1 – cos(4t)) dt )

Integrate normally.

(1/8) [ t - (1/4)sin(4t)) ] + C
(1/8)t – (1/32)sin(4t) + C

To put back in terms of x, first break down sin(4t) into single sines and cosines.

Sin(4t) = sin(2*2t)
= 2sin(2t)cos(2t)
= 2[2sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]
= [4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]

(1/8)t – (1/32)[4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C
(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

To convert back in terms of x, recall that we let
x = sin(t). This means
sin(t) = x/1 = opp/hyp.

Opp = x
hyp = 1, so by Pythagoras,
adj = sqrt(1 – x^2)

cos(t) = adj/hyp = sqrt(1 – x^2)/1 = sqrt(1 – x^2)

Replace sin(t) with x and cos(t) with sqrt(1 – x^2).
Also, since x = sin(t), it follows that t = arcsin(x), so replace the single t with arcsin(x).

(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

becomes

(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – x^2 – x^2 ) + C
(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – 2x^2 ) + C

William asks…

Sandra asks…

Can you help me it my x-y intercept problem(s) for calculus?

find the x and y intercepts of:

1. x^3 – 4x^2 – 12x

2. 2x / x^2 – 9 [ this / means over]

3. 6x / 2x + 3

4. Sqrt of (x) * (x – 6)

Thanks for your help. Just at least help me with some if not all! Showing work helps me a lot to. Thanks

Some helpful tips:

X-intercept: put 0 in for Y
Y- intercept: put 0 in for x

admin answers:

The y-intercept is the easiest thing in the world to find.

Just let x = 0 (which you obviously already know) and calculate
Calculating with lots of zeroes is pretty easy.

Y-intercepts:

1. Y = 0 – 0 – 0 = 0
2. Y = 0/(9-0) = 0
3. Y = 0/(0+3) = 0
4. Y = 0 * -6 = 0

X-intercepts are a little trickier
You need to let y=0 and solve for x (this often requires factoring and letting each factor = 0)

1.

X^3 – 4x^2 – 12x = 0
x (x^2 – 4x – 12) = 0
x (x – 6) (x + 2) = 0
x = 0, 6, -2

2.

2x / (x^2 – 9) = 0 . . . . . . . If numerator = 0, then whole fraction = 0
2x = 0
x = 0

3.

Similar to #2

4.

Sqrt(x) * (x-6) = 0 . . . This one’s already factored, so it’s pretty easy
x = 0, 6

Mandy asks…

How would i integrate the following using the substitution given?

i) x√(x-1) –> x=1+u^2
ii)1/(4+x^2)^(3/2) –> x=2tanθ
iii)x^2/√(1-x^2) –> x=sinθ

Substitution seems to be my weekest point, have you got any tips for me?

admin answers:

(i)

x = 1+ u²
dx = 2udu

and x√(x-1) = (1+ u²).√(1 + u² – 1)

= √u².(1 + u²)

= u(1 + u²)
So
∫[x√(x-1)dx ------------> ∫[u(1 + u²)2udu

= 2.∫u²(1 + u²)du

= 2.∫[u² + u^4]du

This is now in a form which you will readily recognise and can easily be integrated. Once the integration is carried out you then change back to x as the variable.

(ii) x = 2tanθ so dx = 2sec²θdθ

and 1/(4+x²)^(3/2) = 1/(4 + 4tan²θ) ^3/2

= 1 / [4(1 + tan²θ)]^3/2

= 1 / [4 sec²θ]^3/2

= 1 / 8(sec³θ)

∫[dx / (4+x²)^(3/2)]—————> ∫[2sec²θdθ / 8(sec³θ)]

= (1/4).∫[dθ/secθ]

=(1/4).∫cosθ.dθ.

Again this is one you know and after integration change back to x.

(iii) x=sinθ, dx = cosθdθ

and
x² / √( 1 – x² )

= sin²θ / √(1 – sin²θ)

= sin²θ / √(cos²θ)

= sin²θ / cosθ

∫[x² / √( 1 - x² )]dx ————->∫[sin²θ / cosθ]cosθdθ

= ∫sin²θ.dθ.

This is now in standard form and we can use identity

sin²θ = (1/2)[1 - cos2θ] to carry out integration.

∫sin²θ.dθ = ∫ (1/2)[1 - cos2θ]dθ

TIPS.Note the use of the identities

1 + tan²θ = sec²θ

and cos²θ + sin²θ = 1.

When you have an expression such as

a² – x² you would tend to look at substitutions such as

x = a.sinθ or x = a.cosθ

so for example
a² – x² = a² – a² sin²θ

Your Questions About My Tips Au Prizes

Richard asks…

Messy situation , will you please vote to help me out of it?

i should probably be asking for cleaning and organising tips before anything!

will you please vote for my pic? (provided you think i’m messy enough to deserve it!)

mine has a Red Border
and it’s titled “welcome..”

yes, that is my mess *hides in shame!*. i am hoping the prize might help me with some storage solutions! thanks, let me know if you vote!

admin answers:

Entering the Dolly magazine’s Neighbours audition (Neighbours is a popular Aussie TV show). Got any tips etc.?

admin answers:

Enjoy it!

Your Questions About My Tips 1 X 2

Nancy asks…

Then
dx = cos(t) dt.

Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(1 – sin^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) sqrt(cos^2(t)) cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos(t)cos(t) dt )
Integral ( sin^2(t) cos^2(t) dt )

Express as the square of a product.

Integral ( [sin(t)cos(t)]^2 dt )

Use the identity sin(t)cos(t) = (1/2)sin(2t).

Integral ( [(1/2)sin(2t)]^2 dt )
Integral ( (1/4)sin^2(2t) dt )
(1/4) Integral ( sin^2(2t) dt )

Use the half angle identity
sin^2(y) + (1/2)(1 – cos(2t)).
Therefore
sin^2(2t) = (1/2)(1 – cos(4t)).

(1/4) Integral ( (1/2) (1 – cos(4t)) dt )
(1/8) Integral ( (1 – cos(4t)) dt )

Integrate normally.

(1/8) [ t - (1/4)sin(4t)) ] + C
(1/8)t – (1/32)sin(4t) + C

To put back in terms of x, first break down sin(4t) into single sines and cosines.

Sin(4t) = sin(2*2t)
= 2sin(2t)cos(2t)
= 2[2sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]
= [4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)]

(1/8)t – (1/32)[4sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C
(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

To convert back in terms of x, recall that we let
x = sin(t). This means
sin(t) = x/1 = opp/hyp.

Opp = x
hyp = 1, so by Pythagoras,
adj = sqrt(1 – x^2)

cos(t) = adj/hyp = sqrt(1 – x^2)/1 = sqrt(1 – x^2)

Replace sin(t) with x and cos(t) with sqrt(1 – x^2).
Also, since x = sin(t), it follows that t = arcsin(x), so replace the single t with arcsin(x).

(1/8)t – (1/8)[sin(t)cos(t)] [cos^2(t) - sin^2(t)] + C

becomes

(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – x^2 – x^2 ) + C
(1/8)arcsin(x) – (1/8)(x)(sqrt(1 – x^2)) ( 1 – 2x^2 ) + C

Lizzie asks…

Any tips? You do not have to outright solve it but guide me along closer to the finish.

admin answers:

This is a good exam question and there are several pitfalls you want to avoid in solving this type of problem.
To answer your question visually, Dr. Pan (MathDoc) has recorded a YouTube video. Please follow the link below:

Joseph asks…

Can you help me it my x-y intercept problem(s) for calculus?

find the x and y intercepts of:

1. x^3 – 4x^2 – 12x

2. 2x / x^2 – 9 [ this / means over]

3. 6x / 2x + 3

4. Sqrt of (x) * (x – 6)

Thanks for your help. Just at least help me with some if not all! Showing work helps me a lot to. Thanks

Some helpful tips:

X-intercept: put 0 in for Y
Y- intercept: put 0 in for x

admin answers:

The y-intercept is the easiest thing in the world to find.

Just let x = 0 (which you obviously already know) and calculate
Calculating with lots of zeroes is pretty easy.

Y-intercepts:

1. Y = 0 – 0 – 0 = 0
2. Y = 0/(9-0) = 0
3. Y = 0/(0+3) = 0
4. Y = 0 * -6 = 0

X-intercepts are a little trickier
You need to let y=0 and solve for x (this often requires factoring and letting each factor = 0)

1.

X^3 – 4x^2 – 12x = 0
x (x^2 – 4x – 12) = 0
x (x – 6) (x + 2) = 0
x = 0, 6, -2

2.

2x / (x^2 – 9) = 0 . . . . . . . If numerator = 0, then whole fraction = 0
2x = 0
x = 0

3.

Similar to #2

4.

Sqrt(x) * (x-6) = 0 . . . This one’s already factored, so it’s pretty easy
x = 0, 6

Jenny asks…

How would i integrate the following using the substitution given?

i) x√(x-1) –> x=1+u^2
ii)1/(4+x^2)^(3/2) –> x=2tanθ
iii)x^2/√(1-x^2) –> x=sinθ

Substitution seems to be my weekest point, have you got any tips for me?

admin answers:

(i)

x = 1+ u²
dx = 2udu

and x√(x-1) = (1+ u²).√(1 + u² – 1)

= √u².(1 + u²)

= u(1 + u²)
So
∫[x√(x-1)dx ------------> ∫[u(1 + u²)2udu

= 2.∫u²(1 + u²)du

= 2.∫[u² + u^4]du

This is now in a form which you will readily recognise and can easily be integrated. Once the integration is carried out you then change back to x as the variable.

(ii) x = 2tanθ so dx = 2sec²θdθ

and 1/(4+x²)^(3/2) = 1/(4 + 4tan²θ) ^3/2

= 1 / [4(1 + tan²θ)]^3/2

= 1 / [4 sec²θ]^3/2

= 1 / 8(sec³θ)

∫[dx / (4+x²)^(3/2)]—————> ∫[2sec²θdθ / 8(sec³θ)]

= (1/4).∫[dθ/secθ]

=(1/4).∫cosθ.dθ.

Again this is one you know and after integration change back to x.

(iii) x=sinθ, dx = cosθdθ

and
x² / √( 1 – x² )

= sin²θ / √(1 – sin²θ)

= sin²θ / √(cos²θ)

= sin²θ / cosθ

∫[x² / √( 1 - x² )]dx ————->∫[sin²θ / cosθ]cosθdθ

= ∫sin²θ.dθ.

This is now in standard form and we can use identity

sin²θ = (1/2)[1 - cos2θ] to carry out integration.

∫sin²θ.dθ = ∫ (1/2)[1 - cos2θ]dθ

TIPS.Note the use of the identities

1 + tan²θ = sec²θ

and cos²θ + sin²θ = 1.

When you have an expression such as

a² – x² you would tend to look at substitutions such as

x = a.sinθ or x = a.cosθ

so for example
a² – x² = a² – a² sin²θ
