Oh, this will make calculations so much easier! It sounds confusing, but it’s easy when you walk through an example.
It’s the same as reducing a fraction to lowest terms: Divide the numerator and denominator by common factors.

8/10 ×9/16 = (8×9)/(10×16)

8 is a factor of the 8 in the numerator and the 16 in the denominator. Divide them both by 8:
= (1×9)/(10×2)
