@fuckwad: you didn't answer my question about CRU. "beyond the range of variability?" who came up with that? where'd the expected range come from? didn't these same guys project a new ice age 20 years ago? what happened to that? read the paper on Co2 by dr. weinstein Scd and former NASA senior research scientist....or don't read it cuz you'll just come up with something that fits what you want to believe. but it does prove that there is far from agreement on this issue.

Just call it "environmental deterioration" and it cannot be rightfully denied by anyone with a working brain. Whether you call it global warming or climate change is not important. We're destroying our natural habitat with industries, unnatural chemicals and suffocating the planet's natural surface with poisonous asphalt instead of allowing it to breathe and bloom, and it is making us sick. Bettering our and every living creature's health should be our top priority right now. Clean energy!

Consensus =/= fact. There was a scientific consensus that the Milky Way galaxy was the extent of the universe... as more information became clear, we now know this not to be true. Just because an idea is popular/supported by experts does not prove its credibility.

By: gimpxors3. on 13 Mar 10, 19:17:43
Also by the way, not that I expected you to have any idea about the science community. In order for any group to do research they have to have funds. The way they do this is by lobbying, quite often now to the governments. If they want to research something against or not having anything to do with GW then they most likely wont get any funds period. Aka no research and pay check. So what you get are scientists just taking the GW money and running with it.

the climate is ...
By: fuckFOXpropaganda. on 13 Mar 10, 19:02:30
the climate is undergoing a pronounced warming trend beyond the range of natural variability; the major cause of most of the observed warming is rising levels of the greenhouse gas CO2; the rise in CO2 is the result of burning fossil fuels; if CO2 continues to rise over the next century, the warming will continue; and a climate change of the projected magnitude over this time frame represents potential danger to human welfare and the environment.

The USA has had a LOT of snowfall even in the southern states by the Gulf of Mexico. Alabama had snow, Florida had a freeze ruining their tomato crops. Global Warming IS in fact a lie. By: EricIndiana. on 05 Feb 10, 10:08:37
The Romans did the same thing, they created all sorts of lies about native peoples to convince the Roman Senate to conquer more lands. Stories of child sacrifice have been used time and time again to convince a Republics Senate to go to war and a recent example of that would be when the 1st Bush Administration created the lie that Iraqi baby incubator story where Iraqi soldiers were supposedly taking Kuwaiti babies and leaving them to die on the stone cold floors. Which was a total lie.

It could be that the "global warming leaders" are like Themistocles (524 459 BC), who lied to the Athenians that the island of Aegina was a threat because only so he could gain them over to start building a new fleet of triremes which proved decisive in the war against the Persians. In our time the real threat to civilization is? the finite amount of fossil fuels coupled with overpopulation. They might be preparing us for the post "Hubbert peak" world. But why the Themistoclesian lies?

@uboat21 Thank you for that now you will notice a certain noisy individual will point out that the series ends in 1900 which is not bad for a *peer reviewed* paper studying the Younger Dryas. He refers to that as the coolest point when in fact the coolest point is in the 17th century. He groans about an extra degree but it's .7 unless he really wants to mix Centigrade with Fahrenheit he's exaggerating a little. Doesn't help him thought, the Roman warm period is much warmer.

Do you have even a rudimentary understanding of statistics? Oops... I called you a pea brain. Go ahead and ignore this now. It won't change the reason why he picked that year.

@johnedwards1968 The only real chance John Coleman had at credibility was that he has a buddy that actually was a climatologist. Fred Singer destroyed any of that credibility however when he decided to prostitute himself out to the tobacco companies by helping them to implement denial strategies of the links between cancer and cigarettes.

And there are the big bad boasters and challengers who shout out demands for answers staying completely away from and ignoring the proof they are shouting for. There's your denier "cooling period" and there is the end of their fraudulent movement.

@johnedwards1968 2 excellent points John. If it's really about the science, then neither side can lay claim to the arguments of "the debate is over" or "it's all a hoax". Also, your statement of man, and the fact that many have this unfounded delusion that man is incapable of influencing the environment. There are many things that refute this delusion, from acid rain to ozone holes, but to me the most convincing is the Hydrogen Bomb. Set off a few dozen of those and see what happens, eh?

@ThomasJS1 this again shows your lack of understanding of critical thinking skills. Instead of saying that some of the greatest minds in history didn't have a PhD (because they didn't exist), you should ask yourself if they were alive TODAY would they have PhD's. I think the answer is clear. And since the petition does not specify the number of PhD's in which fields of study, the requirement of a PhD alone is also not relevant.

@ThomasJS1 and again. why aren't ALL solar bodies warming? How convenient for you to pick 2 or 3 bodies out of an entire solar system and say "see this proves it". How many years have accurate readings for other solar bodies in our system been available? Is it long enough to be certain? How many instrument changes have taken place? Supposedly the temperature readings here on Earth aren't accurate enough to determine AGW, yet they are so accurate for Mars we can prove AGW to be false?

A weakening of solar activity in recent years, linked to fewer sunspots, would cut at most 0.3 degree Celsius (0.5 F) from a projected rise in temperatures by 2100 if it becomes a long-lasting "Grand Minimum" of brightness, they said.

By: johnedwards1968. on 13 Mar 10, 05:52:51
@ThomasJS1 Now that's a valid point. The debate should never be over when it comes to science. That's why I have such an issue with the obvious politicizing of this on both sides. Is the science conclusive on GW, NO? How then could anyone honestly say it's a hoax? That is the MOST closeminded of positions! It may not come to anything! It may be minor! But to think that man can't influnce the environment, is not just lazy, it's irresponsible.

A new NASA-funded study has concluded that Amazon rain forests were remarkably unaffected in the face of once-in-a-century drought in 2005, neither dying nor thriving, contrary to a previously published report and claims by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. We found no big differences in the greenness level of these forests between drought and non-drought years, which suggests that these forests may be more tolerant of droughts than we previously thought .

By: chompychomps. on 20 Feb 10, 07:55:50
The climate report I am talking about is, again, that of the NAS per White House request. It clearly concludes as contradictory to the Kyoto treaty. It was produced by 11 top climatologists and meteorologists of the field,, like the aforementioned Lindzen of MIT. You can read it or the various essays, articles, and blurbs based on it. It's good to steer clear of the biased media (including many journals) to hear talk of such things as it is certainly not stylish to buck the establishment now.

By: chompychomps. on 20 Feb 10, 07:49:38
Someone is mistaken. Total has been increasing since a marked low in 2006. With the corroborated data sources of ICESAT (laser) and inSAT (radar) there's less room for speculation and error. Be careful of those who throw around terms like Arctic Ice Shrinkage. It is ice redeposition that is happening. Next month's sea ice maximum data should keep with the normalcy I claim to infer. Just another example of how anthropogenic warming slippery-slopists have missed ,or decided to miss, the point

this report is questionable because the warm period was only over an isolated area a statisical anomoly which is undestood . we were talking about global warming in 1958 (for a better explanation on why the myth about global cooling occurred try greenman3610's vid "In the 70s, They said there'd be an Ice Age" ) that should help .

By: chompychomps. on 20 Feb 10, 02:32:27
I hope this "quote-mining" helps it is from the entire team: "One reason for this uncertainty is that, as the report states, the climate is always changing; change is the norm. Two centuries ago, much of the Northern Hemisphere was emerging from a little ice age. A millennium ago, during the Middle Ages, the same region was in a warm period. Thirty years ago, we were concerned with global cooling."
Yes, all parameters ...
By: chompychomps. on 20 Feb 10, 02:31:11
Yes, all parameters were normal with the ice. What the 11-scientist team concluded in the climate report was that global mean temperature is half a degree higher than a century ago. That's it, it has been higher many times before that and, due to history, will again---a state of flux. Nothing, but absolutely nothing concluded or even properly intimated anthropogenic warming. Period.

there has been a rapid increase if you observe the climate data. The most recent white house report which said as point one 1. This observed increase is due primarily to human-induced emissions of heat-trapping gases.

By: chompychomps. on 16 Feb 10, 02:57:33
Well, even human activity is natural, to be technical. But, all levity aside, there is no "rapid increase" to speak of. That was just the sort of thing that the full NAS, White House requested report refuted. I know something of the NAS, it was RICHARD S. LINDZEN who stated: "there is still a vast amount of uncertainty" in regards to anthropogenic climate change claimed in the Kyoto Protocol. He, NAS scientist, went on to condemn the theorists and media who falsely promulgated their results.

It is not natural . As for MWP it was also only over a quite a small area not worldwide. Once the rest of the worldwide data was added the Mwp disappered which has been validated by the NAS.

By: chompychomps. on 15 Feb 10, 08:39:31
When I say fluctuate, I mean, since the dawn of time, it has been fluctuating. Some of us were born in a time when there was a major fluctuation and some only a minor one. You and I, my friend are fortunate in that we haven't had to endure any Younger Dryas or even Little Ice Age type minima, nor have we been dealt a marked warmth event. It is good to be alive now. By: chompychomps. on 14 Feb 10, 23:27:38

@rivalviral In the atmosphere there should be a natural balance of carbon dioxide that is released and removed from the atmosphere, via "sinks" such as oceans, photosynthesis, etc. The problem with fossil fuels is that they store so much energy in the form of carbon dioxide, and CO2 is released when we humans burn fossil fuels. As more CO2 is added into the atmosphere, more heat is trapped in the atmosphere. In fact, in 2005, CO2 levels were 35% higher than before the Industrial Revolution.

By: KatherineLee90. on 05 Mar 10, 21:48:35
The stuff we breathe out is indeed carbon dioxide, but that is beside the point I am trying to make. The carbon dioxide I refer to was once in the form of fossil fuel which was stored beneath the Earth's crust. By extracting that source and using it for fuel, we humans have added more CO2 into the atmosphere and have actually altered the composition of the atmosphere. This added CO2 has trapped more heat in the atmosphere. And another thing, I am not the one who is being brainwashed.

By: pascal2407. on 05 Mar 10, 20:34:33
Misleading science? I'd say scientists apparently disagree on this matter, although the media present the case as being undisputed. The reason you've been told it's a clearcut case is simply so you will eventually obey to pay your CO2-tax! Global Warming is a scam, like 'terrorism' or the (regulated) financial crisis. It's a scam to fit us in their controlgrid. By the way: what's that stuff that you breathe out? Oh right it's carbon dioxide! Maybe they'll tax us for that as well!

No that is not proven! Higher temperatures are the reason for CO2 levels to go up, and not the other way around! Never ever in history has a rise in CO2 caused a rise in temperature, it has always been the other way around. Besides, it has been much warmer in the medieval warmth period than it is now! By the way, although in the 20th century the temperatures have gone up 0,9 degrees Celcius, the last decade the temperature has dropped 0,3 degrees Celsius on average worldwide!

By: Apostolinen. on 27 Feb 10, 20:09:33
I think a lot of the things that are brought out in this films seem reasonable. The fact that nature itself releases more carbon monoxide in the atmosphere than the human race does should mean something. Every time a volcano erupts, it spews out more CM during its blast than our entire industrial world does in years.

By: cactustactics. on 26 Feb 10, 21:54:11
1998 was the warmest according to the HadCRUT analysis - the NASA GISS analysis shows a higher temperature for 2005, because of a difference in methodology (HadCRUT excludes areas with no monitoring stations, GISS extrapolates based on neighboring stations to produce a fuller picture). All of the weather phenomena you're talking about are local weather patterns - globally the temperature has been consistently trending upwards, but that causes 'strange' weather as the climate is unbalanced

Sorry to say this, but 2005 was not the warmest, 1998 was. I had this confirmed to me by a meteorologist, a highly respected one I might add. Also Phil Jones even admitted to slight cooling since 2002. The summer pf 2009 had to be one of the coldest on record, it was second coldest July where I live. People are using climate change because it really isn't warming, as evident with the northern cold snaps, the cold snaps in the south east, DC snowstorms, My area is getting a massive snow storm

By: cactustactics. on 25 Feb 10, 20:23:22
@31guitar This is part of the reason the phrase 'climate change' is used more often, people hear 'global warming' and don't understand that higher global temperatures can disrupt the climate patterns we're familiar with (including bringing colder weather). The Medieval Warm Period was only warmer in certain areas, global temperatures were lower than today (and 2005 is the hottest year on record - it's looking like 2009 will actually beat 1998 for second-warmest)

@Taicair1 I guess anything is possible... Creationists may say that God will save us from climate change and that ought to be part of the AR4 too. If however there was peer-reviewed scientific evidence that God will save us from climate change, of course that ought to be included. But there isn't any peer-reviewed scientific evidence that God will save us from climate change, just as there isn't any peer-reviewed scientific evidence that man has no effect whatsoever on the earth's climate.

@Tacair3 There are respectable scientists who do not believe that recent temperature change is affected by human activity, and equally respectable scientists who believe that because of AGW we are heading for the Earth's 5th great extinction within the next 200 years. The IPCC 4th assessment represents the middle-ground between these two extremes. It may be slightly flawed, but it is the most rational assessment we've got.

By: Herecomesthefatlady. on 12 Mar 10, 22:57:39
@Tacair The IPCC 4th assessment is now the subject of intimate scrutiny yet only 5 errors have been found, none of which undermine its conclusions, and one of which shows it's conclusions to be underestimated. Christopher Monckton's paper contesting AGW was put through a peer-review process and found to contain 126 fundamental errors. Sallie Baliunas and Willie Soon's paper on global warming was so poor that half of the review board resigned when it was published in a sympathetic journal.

By: Herecomesthefatlady. on 12 Mar 10, 12:15:19
Sealevelgate Another error has been found in the IPCC's latest report. It has underpredicted sea-level rise by about 50% (115cm instead of 59cm) by 2100. Why? Because the 115cm figure established was felt to be too 'alarmist'. It'll be interesting to see whether this evidence for an underestimation of the climate problem by IPCC, presented by an IPCC lead author who studies sea level, be just as widely reported and discussed as, say, faulty claims by a blogger?

A new NASA-funded study has concluded that Amazon rain forests were remarkably unaffected in the face of once-in-a-century drought in 2005, neither dying nor thriving, contrary to a previously published report and claims by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. We found no big differences in the greenness level of these forests between drought and non-drought years, which suggests that these forests may be more tolerant of droughts than we previously thought .

By: gimpxors3. on 13 Mar 10, 19:18:48
This is why you get lead scientists such as henk tennekes quitting these groups because it's no longer science but another expansion of the political field.
By: gimpxors3. on 13 Mar 10, 19:10:27
You got it backwards, scientists are unreliable and politicians are too liberal. BTW canada is promoting polar bear hunting because the populations are growing too rapidly.
